*NEW* Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia

Overview

CBT-I is a non-medicated treatment for chronic insomnia. Over a 2-week group workshop, you'll learn to identify the causes of poor sleep, change negative thoughts, and build healthy sleep habits using tools like sleep journals and relaxation techniques. Participants interested in reducing sleep medications may be eligible for follow-up with our Pharmacist. Referral from your doctor or nurse practitioner required.

What is this program about?


Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is a non-medicated treatment for chronic insomnia — whether that's difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early. It is considered a safe and effective approach to improving sleep and may help reduce reliance on sleep medications.


Who is this for?


This program is for individuals suffering from chronic insomnia. A physician or nurse practitioner referral is required to participate.


How do patients access this program?


Patients must speak to their doctor or nurse practitioner to receive a referral. Physician referral is required.


What services are included?


The program is offered as a 2-week workshop with two 90-minute sessions per week. Topics and skills covered include:

  • Identifying and overcoming the underlying causes of sleep problems

  • Recognizing and changing negative thoughts and worries that affect sleep

  • Developing positive sleep habits and eliminating behaviours that disrupt sleep

  • Using practical tools such as sleep journals, sleep restriction, and sleep prescriptions to build healthy sleep patterns

  • Learning relaxation techniques


What can patients expect?


Patients can expect a structured group workshop format over two weeks, attending two 90-minute sessions each week.


What happens after the program?


Participants who are interested in reducing sleep medications are eligible for individual follow-up sessions with a QSFHT Pharmacist upon completion of the group program.
